Azerbaijani MP, member of the country`s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Ganira Pashayeva has urged "strong pressure" from the assembly on Armenia, SIA reports.
Speaking to PACE, Pashayeva called on the organization "to respond to the appeals of the Azerbaijani internally displaced people and exert strong pressure on Armenia".
"Armenia is violating the ceasefire and targeting civilians. I would like to inform you on the situation in the region in the past four days, and ask the assembly to pay more attention to the issue."
Pashayeva said: "Four days ago the Armenian armed forces violated the ceasefire on a constant basis and fired at civilian Azerbaijanis and their homes."
"As a member of parliament from Tovuz district I met a resident of Alibayli village, civilian Anayat Aliyeva, who was injured after the Armenian armed forces opened fire at her home. Her family members are still in a state of shock. The same happened to another civilian Garagiz Naghiyeva, 72, and her family. Three days ago Garagiz and her 5-year-old grandchild were fired at by the Armenian armed forces."
"So we call on PACE to demand Armenia to stop making moves that undermine the efforts to find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," said Pashayeva.
"Armenia has kept the Azerbaijani lands under occupation for more than 20 years. PACE should hear the voice of the Azerbaijani IDPs, whose rights were violated by Armenia and who cannot return home, and take a sharp attitude towards the aggressor."
"Those who live on the front line are waiting for you to ensure the execution of the resolution No 1416 of PACE. We call on the assembly to pay serious attention to the issue and increase efforts on this front."
Pashayeva said: "The resolution demands unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s lands and the return of the Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs to their homelands."
"Although the resolution was adopted nine years ago Armenia still continues to disregard it."
"The Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs call on you to take serious control over the execution of the resolutions and documents that you had adopted, work out more effective mechanisms, defend their violated rights, and raise the issue for discussion," said Pashayeva.
