4 security personnel including a district police chief lost their lives as an explosive device went off in Ghazni province with Ghazni city as its capital, 125 km south of Kabul on Thursday. "Two mines planted by militants on a road in Waghaz district of Ghazni province this morning and police after spotting the lethal devices defused one and were busy in defusing the other when it exploded, killing the district police chief Mohammad Qasim along with three of his bodyguards on the spot," spokesman for provincial government Shafiq Nang told Xinhua.
One more police constable sustained injuries in the blast, he added.
Nang also blamed the Taliban militants for planting the mine on the road. However, the armed outfit has yet to make comment.
