Statistical report on traffic accidents in Azerbaijan over past 26 years made public

6,987 traffic accidents were recorded on the highways of the republic from 1988 to 2013, 23,413 people were killed and 74,781 were injured.

The Chief State Traffic Police Office has made public the statistics of the traffic accidents in Azerbaijan during 26 years.

According to the Chief State Traffic Police Office 66,987 traffic accidents were recorded on the highways of the republic from 1988 to 2013. As a result, 23,413 people were killed and 74,781 were injured.

Most of traffic accidents and casualties within 26 years date back to 1991. 1,281 people were killed in 3,336 traffic accidents in 1991. Relatively fewer traffic accidents happened in 1999-2000. 554 people were killed in 1996 traffic accidents in 1999, and 596 were killed in 1987 traffic accidents in 2000.

2,846 traffic accidents were recorded in 2013, 1,164 people were killed and 2,948 injured.

For comparison it should be noted that Azerbaijani Armed Forces lost 14,000 servicemen, generally 30,000 were killed in the First Karabakh War.
