Ali Abbasov: “More than 1.25 million Azerbaijanis are using Facebook

Approximately 70 per cent of Azerbaijanis are using internet, 50 per cent have access to broadband internet, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said at the scientific-practical conference on the theme "Internet in Azerbaijan: yesterday, today and tomorrow", SIA reports.

Minister said more than 1.25 million Azerbaijanis are using Facebook.

According to him, the State Oil Fund and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies will start implementing project "The construction of high speed fiber-optic network providing a broadband internet access to all settlements of Azerbaijan" next year.

"Important measures are being taken so that all houses in Azerbaijan will have had access to internet by 2020. Necessary services should be provided to expand the internet capacity. Its basis is e-services. 10 per cent of internet users have access to e-services, 40 per cent internet services have been electronized. We expect e-services to reach 100 per cent of the population and 80 per cent of services to be electronized by 2020," Ali Abbasov said.

Minister also said there are active internet users in the country, who virtually even have access to the jobs in other countries. Noting that official procedures – tax, customs services are not available on the internet in the country, Ali Abbasov said that even if such a procedure is realized in the world in future, the Azerbaijani government will not do it.

Minister underlined the importance of establishing special information services base in the country.
