Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the country plans to produce more electricity by building a second nuclear energy plant. It is to be built in the southern province of Bushehr, home to Iran’s first and only nuclear plant.
Rouhani’s announcement comes after the Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, last month said Tehran would start to build its second nuclear plant next year. Salehi said construction is scheduled to begin on March the 21st, 2014, in cooperation with Russia. He said the additional nuclear power would help the country reduce its carbon emissions and oil consumption.
