According to the post, the number of apps on the store has "doubled" in the past month. The post didn’t provide any numbers, but Microsoft said that when it introduced that it would have 100,000 apps within three months of the new system’s launch. It still has a long way to go to compete with app marketplaces from Apple and Google, which both have at least 700,000 apps for sale.
LeBlanc also slipped in another interesting detail: Microsoft developers keep 80 percent of the revenue they make in the store — more than Apple developers make from the Cupertino, Calif., company’s 70-30 split.
Microsoft is the subject of a lot of interest, particularly headed into the holiday season, as the company tries to gain marketshare in the smartphone and tablet worlds.
