Program of the UN Security Council under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan announced

Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, acting president of the UN Security Council Agshin Mehdiyev spoke at a press conference for journalists, during which he told of the activities to be undertaken by the Security Council in May.

Noting that the first time in its history, Azerbaijan became a member of the UN Security Council, the Ambassador stressed that our country always contributed to the maintenance of international peace and security.

According to Mehdiyev, on Wednesday approved a program of the UN Security Council in May under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan. According to it, the Council plans to consider the situation in Guinea-Bissau, the problem of restoring stability in Syria and special envoy Annan\'s plan . It is expected that the report of the Annan will be heard during the discussion of the situation in Syria.

It will also consider the problem of combating al-Qaeda and the issue of implementation of UN Security Council resolution on Libya.

According to Mehdiyev, in its work in May, the UN Security Council will also hold a meeting on the situation in North Korea, Afghanistan and the Middle East.

The Ambassador also said that the proposal of Turkey is expected to hold unformal summit of the UN Security Council in Istanbul on May 26-27.
