The recent killing of an ethnic Armenian Imam Arthur Manukyan in
Yaroslavl city, Russia, may have been ordered either by Armenians or
radical Islamists, according to Turkish daily Hurriyet.
According to the paper, the investigation found out that the 29-year-old Armenian Imam was murdered by a professional killer.
Manukyan was murdered at his home on November 8 this year. The killer shot five times at him from a Makarov pistol.
Further, the Turkish daily says that there are two versions as to why would someone want the Armenian Imam killed.
Firstly, Arthur Manukyan, whose mother is an ethnic Tatar, came under
the attention of the radical Islamists in Dagestan after he rejected
Christianity and adopted Islam.
Also the Armenian nationalistic organizations did not welcome Manukyan’s decision to adopt Islam.
Arthur Manukyan was 19 when he adopted Islam. He also changed his Armenian name and took a Muslim one -Abdulmejit.
