Former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman was sentenced to 12 years in a Mexican prison Thursday for the 2010 murder of his wife, his mother confirmed to Eyewitness News.
Monica Burgos Beresford-Redman's body was found in a sewer cistern in a hotel resort in Cancun, Mexico. The couple had been staying with their two children while on vacation. The producer was extradited to Mexico to stand trial in 2012.
On Thursday afternoon, Beresford-Redman was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Juanita Beresford-Redman says her son was also ordered to pay a fine of 43,000 pesos, which is equivalent to about $2,800.
His parents were notified of the conviction via text. His mother said they plan to fight his conviction.
