Three days after watching the birth of his first child back home in Portugal on FaceTime from the Baku 2015 Athletes Village, Portugal's Jose Maria Fonseca scored two crucial goals in his team's 6-5 win over world no.3 side Switzerland.
"I was very strong today, I played with some extra force," said a smiling Fonseca on Wednesday.
There is a good chance that smile was somewhat sheepish, too, perhaps intended for his loving wife.
"First she asked me not to come here, to stay at home with her and I understood that," said Fonseca. "But I am representing my nation. This is my dream and I thought it was important for my son to understand that we have to run after our dreams.
"So I am not there when he is born, but I am giving him a lesson."
Such reasoning convinced Anna Fonseca, who was "screaming for me today" according to her husband. The striker is aware that it may take something a little more concrete to placate his son in years to come.
