The honour of being the first to compete in the inaugural edition of the European Games at Baku 2015 has fallen to synchronised swimmers Dominika Tsyplakova and Hanna Shulhina from Belarus.
The 17-year-olds will give the Games a spectacular lift-off at the Baku Aquatics Centre at 9 am on Friday 12 June, exactly 12 hours before the Opening Ceremony takes place in the Olympic Stadium.
The synchro duet competition is the first event of the Games, and when the draw for the duets free routine preliminary round was made, Czech-born Tsyplakova and Minsk native Shulhina were first out of the hat.
The two history-makers finished fifth together in the free combination at the 2014 European Championships in Berlin.
The teams free routine qualification round will take place later on Friday, as will the first matches in Groups A and B of the women's Water Polo competition.
