Durunda will turn 18 on the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Baku 2015 European Games, and the Rhythmic gymnast hopes she can make the home fans proud of her.
"I am very proud that the first-ever European Games are going to be held in our country," Durunda said in an interview on the European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) website. "Baku is a great city to organise such a big event."
"It is very important for me to show my best at the Games. I want to enjoy every second of the event and make the audience enjoy it too. I will try to show excellent performances to make the whole of Azerbaijan proud of me,"she added.
Durunda comes into Baku 2015 having won the bronze medal on the Ribbon at the 2015 Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships. She said she expected the home fans to be a support.
"It is a great responsibility to compete in front of my home audience, but I have (an advantage) that I competed in Baku last year at the European Championships, so it's not the first time I experience this," she said.
"It's a great feeling when you know that almost all the people in the arena are cheering for you, hoping that you will show a great performance. From the other side, it is stressful but I hope that I will manage to be strong."
Durunda also said she would happily be on the other side of the spectrum, watching another sport if she got the chance.
"If I get a chance to watch another sport, it will definitely be another gymnastics disciplines, such as Artistic Gymnastics because my friends will compete there."
