Presentation of the Baku-2015 First European Games took place, April 27, in The Dorchester Hotel of London.
Held with joint organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Organizing Committee of the First European Games, assisted by Azerbaijan’s Embassy in London, the ceremony was attended by state and government officials from both the countries, representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Britain, deputies, representatives of London’s general public, and Azerbaijanis living in this country.
Preparation works associated with Baku-2015 were talked about at the ceremony.
Minister of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov noted the significance of holding these Games first in Azerbaijan. Talking also about the ceremony of lighting the first flame of the European Games, the minister underscored that supporting and developing sports was among the national priorities of Azerbaijan.
A.Rahimov talked about the historical ties between Azerbaijan and Britain and gave information about the works carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and President of the Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, both inside and outside the country, towards preserving cultural heritage, promotion of intercultural dialogue, and improving education conditions for the youth.
The minister invited attendees of the ceremony to watch Baku-2015.
President of the European Olympic Committee Patrick Hickey, head of Britain’s Olympic Association Lord Sebastian Coe, and General Operations Director of Baku-2015 Simon Clegg too delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Various video films associated with the First European Games were shown at the ceremony.
The event continued with a concert programme performed by Azerbaijani violinist Nazrin Rashidova.
Within the framework of the event, the guests were presented souvenirs related to the First European Games, prepared with support of the Heydar Aliyev and reflecting Azerbaijan’s national moral values, and magazines were distributed.
