The Dutch triathletes Maaike Caelers and Rachel Klamer have secured their spots on the Netherlands' team at the Baku 2015 European Games.
Both triathletes had been nominated by the Dutch Triathlon Federation as a result of their performance at the World Triathlon Series in Auckland in April. Klamer met the requirements for qualification after races in Hamburg, Kitzbühel and Edmonton.
The women, who are both 24 years old, competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games, with Klamer finishing in 36th place and Caelers placing 41st.
Other Dutch athletes who will compete for the Netherlands in Baku 2015 are Eef Haaze in Canoe Sprint, Bas Verwijlen in Fencing, Peter Hellenbrand in shooting and Jessica Blaszka in Freestyle Wrestling. The women’s 3x3 Basketball and Volleyball Teams are also qualified as are five men and women for the Road Cycling competition.
"Our team is really taking shape now. We notice that a lot of our athletes are eager to go to Baku 2015," said Mr. Jeroen Bijl, Chef de Mission European Games for TeamNL. "Our team for the first European Games will be over a hundred athletes in total," he added.
