Germany’s Horizontal Bar double Olympic medallist and former world champion Fabian Hambüchen will be skipping the 2015 European Artistic Gymnastics Championship to concentrate on the Baku 2015 European Games.
It will be the first time that the 27-year-old Hambüchen, the Beijing 2008 bronze medallist and London 2012 silver medallist, will voluntary miss the continental championship. The 2015 European Championship will take place in Montpellier from 13-19 April, 2015.
“Fabian is no longer the youngest, and we have to focus on certain competitions. That’s why the focus will be on the world championship in October in Glasgow and the European Games in June in Baku,” the 2007 world champion’s father and coach Wolfgang Hambüchen said.
Hambüchen will start his season at the 2015 American Cup in Arlington, Texas on March 7 at the AT&T Stadium.
“It will be a motivating push for him to get into the new and important season. And you really can’t have a more attractive start as an athlete. There are tens of thousands of spectators, an amazing arena, a full house ... What more do you want,” the coach Hambüchen was quoted on GymMedia.de.
