Azerbaijan's National Football Team's German coach Berti Vogts has announced his resignation, SIA reports.
“Unfortunately, I cannot see my future in the Azerbaijan national team,” he told President of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) as they met in Zurich, Switzerland.
The German coach said he was ready to help Azerbaijan any time despite leaving the team. Mr. Vogts also thanked AFFA for their support.
AFFA President Rovnag Abdullayev said Mr. Vogts` tenure as the Azerbaijani manager marked positive changes in general. “Under Berti Vogts Azerbaijan managed to score 9 points - the highest number of points we have ever grabbed - in a qualifying round. Also under the German boss, we jumped to the 73rd place in the FIFA rankings,” Mr. Abdullayev said.
