An Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Youth and Sport Minister, Ismayil Ismayilov, took part at the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.
The event was attended by some 7,000 spectators, including foreign diplomatic and sports delegations from 17 countries.
As a whole, the competition brought together more than 350 athletes from various countries. Azerbaijan will be represented in 10 sports events.
The World Nomadic Games is a cultural event aiming to demonstrate history of nomads, their traditions, lifestyles, culture. The organizers believe the competitions included into the program of the Games are as much spectacular and popular as sports included in the Olympic Games.
The Games is initiated by President of Kyrgyzstan, Almazbek Atambayev, who delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. The Kyrgyz President expressed hope that the World Nomad Games will remain outstanding event in the memory of viewers. President Atambayev thanked everybody who contributed to the preparation and wished the athletes good luck and fair judging, saying “the event will unite national sports and preserve the ancient values of nomads”.
The opening ceremony was continued with the concert program.
