Humanitarian action took place at Al-Farabi Centre for Disabled Children operating under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Pakistan with support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The event was attended by General Director of the Special Education Department of Pakistan’s Cabinet of Ministers Liagat Mohammad Khan, Director of the Centre Mohammad Shabbir, President of Azerbaijan-Pakistan Youth Forum Mohammad Asif Nur, and mass media representatives.
L.M.Khan thanked Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva for the support provided to children with physical disabilities. Talking about the Foundation’s activity in Pakistan, L.M.Khan appreciated this humanitarian aid as a manifestation of the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan. He recalled Mehriban Aliyeva’s being awarded the “Hilal-e-Pakistan” Order – a high state order – by Pakistani President Mamnun Hussein for her services to this country.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Dashgyn Shikarov talked about the relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. Informing the attendees of the event of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the ambassador said the Foundation has implemented, both in Azerbaijan and foreign countries, large-scale projects in the field of science, culture, healthcare etc. D.Shikarov underscored the programmes implemented following Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative in healthcare, education and humanitarian spheres covering all regions of Pakistan. He assessed the awarding of Mehriban Aliyeva the Hilal-e-Pakistan Order in February this year as a respect for the Azerbaijani people, along with high appreciation of the projects implemented by Azerbaijan’s first lady in Pakistan.
50 wheelchairs and special equipment required for children’s rehabilitation were presented on behalf of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to the Centre, where over 200 children study and receive treatment.
At the end of the event, children studying at the Centre performed with a concert programme.
Then the inhabitants of the Centre and technical staff working here were given a dinner.
