Within the framework of the EU funded Asylum Quality Initiative Project (QIEE Project), UNHCR Representation in Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) Department of the State Migration Service (SMS) and with the support of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan is organizing one day targeted joint training for the border-guards and other representatives of the law-enforcement bodies working in the Western border regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan which will be held on 20 November 2014 in Ganja city.
The objective of this training event is to further develop skills, knowledge and expertise of the government officials involved in asylum/migration matters and working in the border regions of the country. Organizers also plan to disseminate Informative Brochure “Asylum in Azerbaijan” jointly developed by the State Migration Service and UNHCR Representation.
The training sessions will be facilitated by the representatives of UNHCR and RSD Department of the State Migration Service.
The Republic of Azerbaijan is one of the six countries participating in the Asylum Systems Quality Initiative in Eastern Europe and South Caucasus, which was launched in April 2013. The two year project is funded by the European Union, co-funded and implemented by the UNHCR, focuses on improvement of asylum procedures and refugee protection in six countries. In addition to the Republic of Azerbaijan, the project covers Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
