A round table on the topic “Media Transformation in the Digital Age: New Development Trends” was held within the 4th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
Agenda of the “round table” includes the panels “The problems of the 21st century journalism in the context of intercultural and inter-civilization dialogue”, “The social media boom: new models of development of journalism in information societies”, “The place and role of the media in covering the humanitarian problems of modern science in the age of globalization”.
Opening the “round table”, the Director General of AzerTAc Aslan Aslanov informed on the agenda, noting that the discussed questions disturb not only professionals, but also the Azerbaijani society.
The first panel moderator of which is the Secretary General of the Organization of Asian and Pacific Ocean countries News Agencies (OANA), the First Deputy CEO of ITAR-TASS Agency of Russia Mikhail Gusman, discusses actual aspects of dialogue on the various platforms of mass media.
In this panel, speaking was the former president of the European Alliance of News Agencies, CEO of Austrian News Agency APA Peter Kropsch, the Director General of the National News Agency of Malaysia (BERNAMA) Yong Soo Heong, the former President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesic, the CEO of Italian Agency AGI Gianni Di Giovanni, the President of the Federation of Turkish Journalists Atilla Sertel, the Member of the Azerbaijan Parliament, writer and journalist Elmira Akhundova, the President & CEO of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, the Emmy Award winner and former Bureau Chief at TIME Magazine Terry McCarthy, the senior teacher of the New Media and Communication Technologies chair Lamiya Vezirova.
The second and third panel meetings will discuss genesis of the new phenomenon which is called in modern journalism as “social media” and its impact on process of objective transformation of the traditional information industry, a number of actual problems of information society, and also the role of mass media in the new world realizing the principle of social responsibility in modern conditions, etc.
