Actor Benedict Cumberbatch is turning superhero to protect the Earth from mystical threats as Marvel's Dr Strange.
The actor, currently wowing audiences in his role as Enigma code breaker Alan Turing, has been confirmed as the star in a film about one of the comic giant's most famous characters.
The film, scheduled to reach cinema screens in November 2016, is being directed by Sinister filmmaker Scott Derrickson with a screenplay by Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts.
It will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a terrible car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternative dimensions.
He becomes one of Earth's most powerful sorcerers responsible for protecting it against mystical threats.
"Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity," said producer Kevin Feige.
"In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character."
