On Sptember 18, the head of the Intra-national Liberation Movement Vahan Martirosyan, who asked Azerbaijan for political asylum, has made a statement in Baku.
reports that the joint statement was signed by Vahan Martirosyan and his wife Karina Gasparyan.
The statement reads:
“I, Martirosyan Vahan Emilyevich, was born in 1986 in Yerevan. I am an Armenian citizen. I, together with my family have voluntarily crossed to the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the help of my friends and counterparts from the non-governmental organizations in Azerbaijan. I was welcomed very friendly and hospitably in Azerbaijan and didn’t face any pressure from the Azerbaijani side. This act of mine was caused my socio-political activity and my activity as a human rights defender in Armenia. As the head of the Intra-national Liberation Movement, I have struggled against Serzh Sargsyan’s criminal regime and the total corruption activity of the Armenian government. Because of this activity, over the past three years I and my other colleagues have been harassed and tortured by the Armenian authorities. Finally on August 12, bodyguards and relatives of Serzh Sargsyan’s close friend, deputy of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Mher Sedrakyan attacked me and my family in my apartment. I was brutally beaten in front of my old mother and 2-year old son, my pregnant wife lost her baby. Then, I was continually offered bribe for closing the work and not leaking information to the media. As I rejected the offer, my mother started facing pressure. The Investigative Committee of Armenia launched various fake criminal cases against me, found false witnesses and forced medical centers to make false documents on my being beaten. As a result of it I feared of detention, repression, unfair trial and my family’s being in danger and decided immediately to leave Armenia. My purpose is, with the help of the Azerbaijani media, to open the eyes of the Armenian diaspora and international community to the criminal essence ofSerzh Sargsyan's illegitimate regime and illegal acts committed by people surrounding him. I want also to show how this regime deliberately uses the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, creates a hostile attitude toward Azerbaijan at the expense of the decline in Armenia's economy and living conditions of the Armenian people.”
