Italian newspaper "Il giornale" has issued a letter of response of Azerbaijani Ambassador Vagif Sadigov to Karen Mirzoian, so-called Foreign Minister of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, who made unfounded comments about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
In his letter, the Ambassador said: "Everyone is aware of the fact that this so-called separatist regime in the Nagorno-Karabakh is not recognized by any country, including Armenia itself. Armenia disregards four UN Security Council resolutions and a number of resolutions of other international organizations demanding immediate withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Azerbaijani lands."
“Recent judgment of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights on the case of Chiragov and others vs Armenia once more proved that Armenia is responsible for the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories.”
“Mirzoian distorts the reality and calls the Nagorno-Karabakh a party of the conflict. But the Armenian armed forces` occupying the Azerbaijani territories is a fact recognized by the international authorities."
Mr Sadigov said: "One of the wrong comments Mirzoian made during the interview was about the Armenians living in the Nagorno-Karabakh. I would like to recall the fact that the Armenians living in this region were not a nation. They were just one of the ethnic groups living in Azerbaijan. This member of the separatist regime forgets that as a result of the ethnic cleansing conducted by Armenians 50,000 Azerbaijanis were expelled from Nagorno-Karabakh and 700,000 from 7 surrounding regions. Azerbaijan has a solid position against the involvement of Nagorno-Karabakh in negotiations process as a separate party. Our government can't hold any negotiations with the separatist regime."
“Historical, religious, cultural monuments have been totally destroyed in the occupied Azerbaijani territories, which cost USD60 billion overall.”
"Azerbaijan is capable of returning its occupied territories by means of military force, if the negotiations yield no results,” the Ambassador added.
