Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov met with Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan Malena Mard. At the meeting, discussions were held on organization of a conference on Digital Single Market jointly with the European Union within the 21st Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition and Conference Bakutel 2015 in Baku on December 2-5.
Noting the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in various areas, Minister Ali Abbasov stressed mutual interest and potential for further development of relations. The Minister, in particular, noted that Bakutel, which is the largest event in ICT field in the Caspian basin and the Caucasus, has created a large and favorable platform to strengthen and enter a new phase of cooperation between the parties.
In turn, saying that she had watched with interest the progress made in Azerbaijan in the field of ICT over recent years, stated the success of Azerbaijan could be a good example for the Eastern Partnership countries (Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine and Armenia). The ambassador stressed that the initiatives in this direction are useful and at the same time is very important for the expansion of mutual exchange of experience. The diplomat also recalled the first ministerial meeting on digital economy of the Eastern Partnership countries, which took place in early June in Luxembourg within the framework of the Eastern Partnership programme of the European Union, and brought to the attention the opportunity to hold discussions within Bakutel 2015 by working groups in connection with the fulfillment of commitments arising from this meeting.Ms. Mard said after discussions at the headquarters in Brussels, the EU will give a final answer to the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (MCHT) on organization of the said conference.
Note that this year Google, the leading and world-known American company, has been selected as a strategic partner of the exhibition and conference Bakutel 2015.
