"The Azerbaijani Embassy has expressed dissatisfaction and concern of our country to the Canadian side in connection with the visit of Karen Mirzoyan, representing himself as “foreign minister” of the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh regime established in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, to Canada in October this year." A spokesman of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Hikmet Hajiyev said in his interview to AzerTAc, SIA reports.
Hajiyev said that in response to Azerbaijan’s concern, the Canadian side reiterated that Ottawa recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including the sovereignty of Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 adjacent regions.
“Canada continues to support a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. It was emphasized that the Canadian side understands Azerbaijan’s concern and noted that the Government of Canada neither gave consent to, nor organized and provided assistance to the trip of this person, who declared himself as the representative of “Nagorno-Karabakh”. Anyone, who pays a visit to Canada under this pretext, doesn’t have any official status in Canada. The Canadian authorities have indicated that the necessary precautions are taken to prevent the person’s contacts with officials of the Government of Canada during his visit. During contact with the Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Ministry on this issue, it was found that the person named Karen Mirzoyan holds a passport of Armenia and made a trip to Canada as a citizen of Armenia. Therefore, there were no legal grounds for refusal to grant a visa to that person who applied for a trip to Canada as an Armenian citizen. Such facts are an evident exposure of the false propaganda of Armenia. This again demonstrates that Armenia is pursuing an international policy based on lies, and provides wrong information to other countries about such persons, their personalities and genuine citizenship issuing Armenian passports for them. Similar actions of Armenia once against prove that it continues pursuing a policy of annexation of some Azerbaijani territories,” stressed Hajiyev
