Seven cities in South America, Africa and Asia have been named by an Internet poll as Wonders of the World, SIA reports quoting the TASS.
The winners are Havana (Cuba), Beirut (Lebanon), Vigan (the Philippines), Doha (Qatar), Durban (South Africa), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and La Paz (Bolivia).
The vote was organized by Switzerland’s New7Wonders Foundation.
The head of the foundation, Bernard Weber, said more than half of the planet’s population live in cities, for the first time in the mankind’s history, and the poll results reflected the dramatically complex character of the changing world.
When the poll started in October 2012, more than 1,200 cities from 220 countries were chosen as candidates for the title. The list was shortened to 300 in 2013 and later to 28. Fourteen remained on the shortlist on October 7 this year, and half of them finally won the title.
It is the third vote organized by the Swiss foundation to choose new seven wonders.
