The ex-wife of one the world’s top investors is now richer than the Queen after she was awarded a £377million divorce settlement – and she could get even more money if she appeals the decision.
Jamie Cooper-Hohn, who divorced hedge fund tycoon Sir Christopher Hohn after 15 years of marriage, was awarded what is thought to be the largest divorce payout ever awarded by a judge in England.
But Mrs Cooper-Hohn – who is now wealthier than the Queen – may get even more money if she successfully appeals the decision.
Sir Christopher’s lawyer said his multi-millionaire client was anxious to ‘move on with things’ but that the ‘wife is not’.
In a two-week hearing at the High Court Family Division in London, the couple fought over assets totalling more than £700million, with Sir Christopher arguing that his money-making skills were a ‘special contribution’ to that wealth while his ex-wife claimed the fortune was created as a result of their partnership.
Sir Christopher, 48, is known for being frugal, and reportedly lives in a rented house, drives a Toyota Prius and wears an old black Swatch watch.
