A repair platform at the 441st platform of the oil and gas management ‘Narimanneft’ of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) collapsed during ongoing repairs on October 23. The incident happened at about at about 12:00. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) told SIA.
As a result of the collapse, a small wagon-house on the platform fell into a gas pipeline with a diameter of 700 millimeters, damaging it and causing a fire the sea. The fire was extinguished at 12:45.
There were 41 workers at the site. As a result of operative measures taken by the rescue brigade immediately after the accident, some 37 people were evacuated from the scene to the beach on Orion-15 and PSK-52 vessels.
The injured workers are currently being provided with first aid. Search operation is underway for four persons, supposedly fallen into sea during offshore platform accident. Additional information will soon be given.
A special commission was set up to investigate the incident.
