French deputies were interested in activities implemented on the energy sector in Azerbaijan

The Ministry of Energy held a meeting with a delegation of French deputies, who are visiting Baku, to get acquainted with cooperation issues with Azerbaijan within EU Neighborhood Policy and Eastern Partnership, SIA reports.

Emphasizing the high level of cooperation between the two countries in various areas, Deputy Minister of Energy Samir Valiyev said that French company “Total” is one of the long-term partners in the energy sector of Azerbaijan. Currently, there is a cooperation with “Total”, as well as other French companies on renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

French deputy Joaquim Pueyo was interested in the activities implemented, future steps in the field of energy within the preparation of a new comprehensive agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU, as well as the implementation of Azerbaijan's commitment according to the Paris Agreement.

During the meeting, the information was given on the work done on the implementation of reforms in the field of energy of Azerbaijan and the draft laws to improve legislative framework. It was noted that the implementation of appropriate measures in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency will also contribute to the implementation of the commitments made by the Paris Agreement.

The “Southern Gas Corridor” project was also mentioned at the meeting. It was noted that Azerbaijan is interested in cooperation with the EU countries and the renewed agreement will ensure the development of relations in all areas, including energy.
