First Ministerial Meeting on Digital Economy took place in Luxembourg within the framework of the EU’s Eastern Partnership programme.
First Ministerial Meeting on Digital Economy was held by the European Union on 11 June 2015.
The event was attended by ministers in charge of digital economy and other officials of the European Union and Eastern Partnership countries.
Azerbaijan at the event was represented by a delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizadeh. The Deputy Minister made a speech on the current state of the digital market in Azerbaijan.
Following the meeting, a declaration on a single digital economy was adopted.
Declaration provides for harmonizing digital markets of partner countries with the European Union and implementation of measures for selected areas (e-services, e-government, e-health, customs, digital transport corridors, e commerce, ICT-based infrastructures for e-trade, ICT-based infrastructure for research and education, communication networks, information security and cybersecurity).
Measures to be implemented are also part of A Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe adopted by the European Union in May 2015.
During the event, a bilateral meeting was held between Deputy Minister Elmir Velizadeh and European Commissioner for the single digital market Andrus Ansip, where they parties discussed the issues of cooperation. At the meeting, Elmir Velizadeh invited European Commissioner Andrus Ansip to BakuTel-2015 exhibition.
Moreover, as part of EaPConnect project, an agreement was signed between European Commission and GEANT Association for wide integration of National Research and Education Networks of the Eastern Partnership countries with the European GEANT network.
