Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov took part in the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa in Jordan.
The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan at the event was represented by Minister Ali Abbasov.
The event, which was attended by King Abdullah II of Jordan, Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah al-Sisi, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab, senior officials of state and government, representatives of the academic community, heads of civil society and leading companies.
The Minister took part in the sessions “Future Technologies”, “Digital Extremism” and “Infrastructure for Development”, where they discussed topics such as the impact of advanced technologies on all spheres of life, its role in solving the problems of natural resources and unemployment.
Within the framework of the forum Minister Ali Abbasov held a bilateral meeting with WEF founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab. Noting the active participation of President Ilham Aliyev at Davos Forum, WEF chairman said under his leadership the country’s economic development is an example for other countries. He said that he would give appropriate instructions to their units to reflect the rapid development of information and high technologies of Azerbaijan in discussions and meetings to be held in the framework of the WEF in Davos.
During the meeting the sides exchanged views on the prospects of development of relations between Azerbaijan and the World Economic Forum summit, discussed the theme of the holding a special session of the UN Broadband Commission with the WEF, to be held in January 2016 at the annual meeting of the WEF in Davos.
With the purpose of establishing new cooperation and developing the existing relations, Minister Ali Abbasov also held bilateral meetings with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Jordan, Minister of Public Sector Development of Jordan, Minister of Communications and Information Technologies of Uganda, Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria, general director of the structure of trade and tourism development of the emirate Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates, special envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for the peace, as well as heads of corporations and world-known companies.
