The 25th meeting of the Regional Planning Council (RPC) of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held in Tehran, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Iran on March 1-5. Azerbaijan at the meeting was represented by a large delegation.
The delegation included a representative from the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (MCHT) who attended the meetings of ECO Committee on Transport and Communications.
During the meetings, a number of projects were discussed, decisions were adopted on the activities of the organization and Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway (TASIM) project was presented.
Abbas Mammadov, leading advisor at International Relations Department of the MCHT made a presentation on TASIM project before ECO Secretariat and representatives from Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The presentation was made on the theme “Role of TASIM in the New Geopolitical Reality”. It was informed that the project, which was initiated by Azerbaijan, envisages the creation of a major transit link from Frankfurt (Germany) to Hong Kong (China). It was noted that the project, politically backed by UN General Assembly resolutions, is one of the shortest and most profitable routes between Europe and Asia.
At the end of the presentation, MCHT representative urged ECO Secretariat and its member states to support project TASIM.
