Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov met with the envoy of the British Prime Minister for issues of Trade with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan Charles Hendry and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Azerbaijan Irfan Siddig.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Ali Abbasov said that successful partnership that extends between Azerbaijan and UK has great potential for further expansion of economic cooperation, including in the field of communications and high technologies. Speaking of mutual interest to the development of information technologies, the satellite industry between the two countries, the minister spoke about ties established with major British telecommunications company British Telecom. It was noted that several UK consulting companies have already started their activities in Azerbaijani market.
The minister praised the signing of Memorandum of Understanding “On Economic and Trade Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” as part of the visit of Charles Hendry to our country and expressed hope that this document which will serve to further strengthening of ties will open up new opportunities for cooperation in the field of information and high technologies.
In turn, expressing satisfaction with the development of relations with Azerbaijan, Charles Hendry brought to the attention that the memorandum will serve to expand cooperation, and the sphere of information technologies is the main part of the cooperation in the document. Speaking about participation of UK in satellite projects, in particular on the activities of the satellite company Inmarsat, the envoy expressed interest in joint projects in the field of satellite industry with Azerbaijan.
Noting the role of the international telecommunications and information technologies exhibition and conference Bakutel in deepening ties, Charles Hendry said the exhibition and conference Bakutel 2014 was attended by more than 7 British companies, and this number will be increased in the future.
The sides also exchanged views on other areas of mutual interest, discussed future plans in the directions of further cooperation.
