Azerbaijani Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov has participated in the Asian Regional Summit of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Tianjin, China.
The 2014 WEF's Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as Summer Davos, gathered more than 1,600 participants from 90 countries and regions to Tianjin under the theme "Creating Value through Innovation" to brainstorm on how innovation can generate more value for society.
The summit discussed the issues of the application of new technologies, scientific and technological achievements in economy, innovative entrepreneurship, in particular, ICT development, the impact of high technologies on economic development and the role of government in these areas.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Klaus Schwab delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the forum.
Minister Abbasov addressed the session of the forum to highlight reforms implemented in Azerbaijan under President Ilham Aliyev. He spoke of what had been done in the country in the fields of regional cooperation, internet governance and internet security.
He also met Minister of the State Internet Information Office of China Lu Wei on the sidelines of the forum, and they discussed a wide range of issues, including ICT technologies, cyber security and internet governance. They also exchanged views on the implementation of Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway -TASIM and Eurasian Connectivity Alliance-EuraCA projects.
Mr. Abbasov invited Mr. Wei to visit the Bakutel-2014 exhibition to be held in the Azerbaijani capital in December, which will feature an international conference co-organized by the Azerbaijani government, International Telecommunication Union and World Economic Forum.
The Chinese Minister invited Mr. Abbasov to a global internet summit to be held in Beijing in November.
The Azerbaijani Minister also met his counterparts from Georgia, Vietnam, Rwanda and Mali, as well as representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, WEF, Microsoft, and Huawei.
Mr. Abbasov was interviewed by the Chinese Central Television and The 21st Century Business Herald newspaper.
